8th Street Surf Guide
Family break in a family beach town. This is probably the most well-known/most surfed spot in Ocean City. This spot is essentially set up by the large jetty off 7th St. This stretch of coast faces south/southeast and breaks less critical (more user friendly) than a lot of New Jersey spots. Ocean City, in general, is a bit smaller than breaks to the north. Works on swells from almost any angle. Northwest winds are offshore but it works well with a lot of north in the wind.
Very active surf community steeped in history and culture with world-class surf shops, environmental organizations and the South Jersey Boardriders Club, part of South Jersey Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.
Local Vibe
Active surf community.
Crowd Factor
Medium.
Spot Rating
Decent.
Shoulder Burn
Moderate.
Water Quality
Decent.
Hazards
Mind the jetty if there is a drift.
Access
The designated surf beach in the summer is a block over at 7th St, from 10am to 5pm. Easy/free street parking in the off season; more complicated in the summer. Many of the streets near the boardwalk have metered parking and there are three large pay lots near the break. The city uses the ParkMobile app. Nearby public restrooms and wheelchair accessibility. Access the beach over a very commercial boardwalk. Beach Badge required during guarded hours in the summer.
Bottom
Soft sand.
Best Season
August to October.
