Abrolhos Islands Surf Guide
If you don't like crowds you'll love the Abrolhos Islands. A barren archipelago of 122 coral cays 50 miles off the coast of Geraldton in Western Australia, the Islands are famous for three things. One, they were the site of the first European settlement in Australia (a shipwreck in 1629 that resulted in 125 murders when the crew turned mutinous). Two, fishing for rock lobster. And three, the waves. You'll need to charter a boat and it'll cost you, but the variety of waves and the exhilaration of riding empty reef waves while thousands of protected fish swim beneath you is priceless.
