Boca Barranca Surf Guide
A super long, high-quality lefthand point break/river mouth, Boca Barranca is one of the better points in Costa Rica (arguably second only to Pavones), and relatively easy to access due to its proximity to San Jose. Of course, this means that when its on, it gets pretty crowded. Still worth the trek, as 800-yard rides are possible.
Local Vibe
One of the better waves in Costa Rica, and relatively close to San Jose, so it's a bit localized.

When its on, it gets busy.

Quality, lefthand point break that gets borderline world-class on its day.
Shoulder Burn
Like most pointbreaks, the current tends to run when the swell gets solid.
Water Quality
Tends to be a bit dirty due to rivermouth runoff.
Hazards
Localism, crocodiles, pollution, petty theft.
Access
Drive to the end of the bridge and pay for parking (this is safest), then walk down to the rivermouth.
Bottom
Flat rocks with sand.
Best Season
May-September.
