Chatarra Surf Guide

Chatarra is considered by many to be one of the most incredible lefts in the Caribbean -- and when it's really good, it's the best wave on the whole island. Muscular swells hit the flat-ledged reef and create the meanest, most perfect left shack in PR. Chatarra breaks best with W in the swell direction and needs clean morning conditions, unless it's one of those rare offshore days. It turns into more of an A-frame when the swell is N, but can also be dangerously shallow at these times if it's big. It also needs a pretty big swell to start showing its teeth. Once again, getting out is a thrill, since there's only one entry/exit spot that's not laced with urchins (high tide is a little easier).
