Consolação Surf Guide

Consolação is the fortress-adorned headland at the southern end of Supertubos beach. It delivers nice, heavy waves on both sides: a reefy, although somewhat fat, right-hand pointbreak, and a heavy, more stacked up sand-bottomed left. The right is a local favorite when the swell wraps around the headland and can hold size up to triple overhead. The left needs bigger swells to come to life and is a more volatile and dependable on sand placement on the bottom.

Ability Level

Intermediate - Advanced

BegIntAdv

Intermediate to advanced. Above 10 ft. both waves require fully developed skills.

Local Vibe

Doable

WelcomingIntimidating

Don’t expect smiles or greetings when approaching the line-up, but stink-eyes and hassles are not a common thing neither. Approach carefully, let a couple of sets pass you by before catching one, and you should be fine.

Crowd Factor

Moderate

MellowHeavy

Busy, focused. Consolação is capable of holding form when Supertubos is maxing out, so there are lots of surfers flocking to it for more manageable waves. Rarely over 20 people at the same time on the right, even less on the left.

Spot Rating

Perfect

PoorPerfect

Pointbreak over reef with reliable walls on the right. Longer, faster and steeper walls on the left.

Shoulder Burn

Exhausting

LightExhausting

Long paddles for both sides of the spot, harder on the left because of the shorebreak and multiple foam lines.

Water Quality

Clean

CleanDirty

Clean. A regular recipient of the Quercus Golden Quality award, Consolação is widely known and sought-after for its iodine concentrations and therapeutic properties.

Hazards

Rocky shore, heavy waves, and rips pulling toward the rocks. When big, entries and exits can be sketchy on the right. Good timing is crucial.
