Crab Island Surf Guide
In the 20th century, this was the heaviest wave around. Breaks off a small offshore island just off the harbour in (super touristy) Doolin Village. Packs a punch.
Local Vibe
It’s a staple for locals and they're going to get their waves when it's busy. Smiles and strategy required when it's good and sunny. Often overlooked when it’s a little bigger because of the paddling.
Crowd Factor
This is a regular with locals and a fairly tight takeoff spot. Crowds are a factor.

Don't forget shoulder day beforehand; it is further than it looks.
Water Quality
Very clean.
Hazards
Very sharp limestone reef. Can get shallow. It’s a long way back to the harbour if you get hurt or lose your board.

Park at the harbour and paddle from the rocks.

Rock reef.
Best Season
Will break all year round. Does not handle wind well so mid winter spotty.
