Far Rockaway Surf Guide

On big fall and winter swells, hollow beachbreaks explode over old pilings (much of which have been removed after Hurricane Sandy) and rocks. Strong currents rip this way and that. Despite its surly nature, Rockaway is a choice surf spot on Long Island -- it can get solid, and hold a northwest wind better than other nearby spots.
