G-frame Surf Guide

Surf spot guide

Ideal Surf Conditions

Swell Direction

Generally worth checking on a W to NW swell that is approximately 2,3 m and higher. SW swells need a little more for it to work as the island “Gaukværøya” just off the coast alleviates some of the swell power. Worth checking on a SW swell that is approximately 3 meters and higher. The wave is also strongly affected by passing storms, and one to three days after a powerful storm usually creates waves that are bigger than on normal days. Keep an eye out for these days, as the winds are also usually favorable a couple of days after a big storm.

Wind

0 m/s – 4 m/s offshore is ideal. The spot is very sensitive to wind. Onshore winds will completely ruin the spot. Cross shore winds might work, but then the wind needs to be very light.

Surf Height

12 seconds and higher is recommended.

Tide

Mid-tide to high-tide or high-tide to mid-tide. The waves are best at mid-tide. If the tide is too low, the whole bay gets empty and you will hit rocks with your board. If the tide is too high, the waves may not break over the reef.

G-frame Surf Guide

The wave gets its name because the wave breaks like an A-frame and is located one a place called Gimstad. If you combine the first letter from Gimstad with the word A-frame. You get G-frame. The wave breaks over a submerged reef located in the middle of the bay. This results in a wave that goes both ways. The left-hand wave is often the longest wave, but the right-hand wave is slightly more consistent and a lot of fun. The backdrop with the iconic Gaukværøya makes for great photo opportunities.
