Tidal range is under two feet, so all tides yield the same results. Besides, given the slim morning window, no one plays the tides here. They play the trades.

La Boya Surf Guide

Given its vibrant, festive scene and proximity to the capital city, La Boya can get a tad busy on weekends and holidays, mainly a few fun-loving city kids and vacationers from nearby Santo Domingo, but the lineup’s still a happy place.

Intermediate to advanced. Regular surfers can hang, but rippers will flare.

Local Vibe

Welcoming

WelcomingIntimidating

Many local kids are poor and must share whatever rudimentary surfcraft they can find with all their friends and siblings. You should leave one of your boards behind after your trip. It’d go a long way.

Spot Rating

Fun

PoorPerfect

A consistent, known reefbreak along an inconsistent, unknown coast. If you’re already in the capital city anyway, why wouldn’t you check it out? Score a hurricane swell, though, and you’ll be laughing into next year.

Pretty much a cakewalk, maybe some rips to battle once the wind blows cross-shore.

Water Quality

It can get pretty nasty with pollution from the nearby harbor in Boca Chica and the Andres port.
