Los Tubos Surf Guide

Los Tubos is about 30 minutes west of San Juan and has the added advantage of facing slightly west, so the NE trades are just about offshore. It's a thick, deepwater peak, almost like a mini Inside Sunset Beach, where you're dropping in blind and hoping your rail holds in the face as the lip pours over your head. It breaks both left and right (favors lefts) over a combo of sand and reef and has a convenient paddling channel right next to it. If you get the right wave, you're pulling in on the drop and coming out into a series of carve and high-line sections, swooping and driving: fun stuff. Fortunately, it shifts around a bit and can accommodate the throngs of eager tube seekers that show up here when there's swell.
