Main Pass Surf Guide

Also known as Sokehs, Main Pass would be a great second option to the crowds at Palikir if Sokehs wasn't always so windy. During high tide, the chop propagating down the reef from the lagoon fetch to the east ends up sweeping into the lineup here. But, unlike Palikir, Sokehs can handle any size swell, and it also breaks during typhoon swell from directions that Palikir can't catch.

Although a part of Sokehs is really shallow with an exposed rock boil shelf at the end of the last section, it can be easily avoided if the swell is in the head-high range.

Other considerations are the size of the wave field and the shiftiness. When the swell is big, the peak moves around, and if you move up the point you are almost sure to get cleaned up by the wide, swinging bombs unless you stay all the way outside, and then it is difficult to catch waves. It is also somewhat difficult to assess takeoff spots for lack of reference points.
