Rio Nexpa Surf Guide

Rio Nexpa is indisputably one of Mexico's best lefts when a sturdy S or SW swell is running. Located at the southern end of Michoacan State, Nexpa's left is a long, occasionally barreling wave that hits the cobblestone fan of a wide rivermouth. At its best, Nexpa is nothing short of reeling, leg-burning, and world-class. Naturally, the wave's shape is reliant on the river's flow, and typically by the end of summer it has blown out too wide because of all the rain, which usually wrecks the sandbar. The good news is that Nexpa tends to hold up all day, short of the nastiest onshore conditions, so there is plenty of time for everyone to get their fill of long, zipping lefts.
