Sand Island Surf Guide
Despite its proximity to Town, Sand Island is often one of the best places to beat the crowds -- seems almost hidden in plain sight. There are a few different peaks to choose from that offer both rights and lefts. Water quality is often suspect with harbor entrances on each side, one of which leads to a large industrial harbor. This spot is known for shark sightings as well, following commercial fishing boats going into the harbor.
Local Vibe
Depends on the session shift, usually mellow early. Humility and respect appreciated.
Crowd Factor
Not very crowded usually, but can get pretty crowded during a fun-size swell on the weekends.

Average most of the time but can get very fun without heavy crowds.
