St Mikes Surf Guide
A righthand pointbreak on the South Coast of Kwazulu Natal, St Mikes or Saints is the South Coast surf scene’s focal point. It hosts events and has a clean, lovely beach setup with a tidal pool and amenities.
Local Vibe
Usually mellow — it is the South Coast — but it can get a bit louder on the weekend.
Crowd Factor
It can get crowded when it’s the only spot happening.
Spot Rating
Classic South Coast pointbreak, but not super hollow or heavy.
Shoulder Burn
You’re paddling at St Mikes. When a SW groundswell pulls in, there’s a strong current.
Water Quality
Clean water down here.
Hazards
Sharks, sharp rocks and a gnarly rock-jump, as well as big sets, will keep you on your toes.
Access
Plenty of parking, gnarly rock jump-off.
Bottom
It’s a sand-bottom pointbreak, but it breaks along rocks.
Best Season
St Mikes, and most of the South Coast, works best in Autumn when the land breezes start blowing.
