The Back Porch Surf Guide

The Back Porch is a fried-seafood tourist restaurant just to the east of Destin and has a good inside break year-round. Destin East is full of beachbreaks with good access and parking right off the beach road. All along Old Highway 98, you can see waves breaking, making it easy to check from your car on those cold winter days.

If you want a solo session, most any beach will do if it looks good and the waves are waist-high and up. The Destin East beaches are located between Destin proper and Sandestin Resort. They are accessed right off Highway 98, closer to Destin, and through Old Scenic Highway 98, past Destin. From Panama City, follow Highway 98 west through Sandestin, take a left at the light at the Winn Dixie Shopping Center on Old Highway 98, and drive along the beach road.

To find the Back Porch drive east out of Destin until you see the intersection with the Hampton Inn ahead and miniature golf on the left. Turn right off Highway 98 and park in The Back Porch parking lot.
