Ideal Surf Conditions
Swell Direction
SW. 0,6 meters to 1,0 meter. Up to 1,3 m might work if the period is low and the winds are offshore. The ideal swell direction is from the southwest. Sometimes when the swell is bigger from the NW, the swell can bend around the island and create nice waves, but then it’s hard to predict the wave size.
Wind
Normally the waves are best when the wind is coming from the east or north east. 0 m/s – 3 m/s. As long as the wind is not too strong, northern winds can also work.
Surf Height
This spot needs a small swell with a short period to work at its best. Bigger swells with long periods result in closeouts.
Tide
Ideal tide is high-tide. You will need a lot of water in the bay to get a good right-hand wave. The ideal tide can vary as the sandbar shifts.
The Frog Surf Guide
Right beside where the wave breaks, there is a rock on the north side of the beach that looks like a frog sitting in the water. Hence the name “The Frog”. The wave is a right-handed wave that breaks over a sandbar. The river mouth helps create the sandbar, and the nearby boulder (The Frog) helps the wave break. The sandbar shifts around so the surf can vary a little. It is not a big wave, but it is a fun wave for beginners. Occasionally a left-hand wave breaks next to The Frog in the middle of the bay. The waves are suitable for longboards and funboards.
