The Hoek Surf Guide
The Hoek is a great little barreling peak where many Cape Town surfers learned to pull in. Tucked away in the corner of Noordhoek Beach, the setup is protected by the howling summer southeast winds and has a nice bounce off the rocks that helps form the barreling right-hand wedge. The spot requires full commitment when paddling for a wave as southeast winds ensure it is usually howling offshore and stands up very quick. The Hoek is only surfable on the low tide and the lower the better. It will get swamped pretty quickly as the tide rises. The water temps here can be downright freezing, and there have been numerous Great White sightings here over the years. To access the Hoek, park at the Noordhoek car park. Take some water and other refreshments with you, as well as your car keys.
