Tocones Surf Guide
You'll be lucky enough to even see this myth of a wave break, let alone pull into one of its death-defying barrels and survive the experience unscathed. If you're standing in the entry/exit channel at Aviones, look to the east for the shallow piece of reef that breaks waves close to shore. It usually just looks like dry reef, but on swells of a certain size and direction, which seem to have little reason at times, it turns into one of the most lethal little nuggets in PR. It's a fully sucking righthand hole shot, only 30 to 40 yards at best, but about the most intense section imaginable, with razor-sharp, urchin-infested reef only inches under your board. The consequences of not making a wave at Tocones are very serious.
