Tracks Surf Guide
Somewhat of an indicator for swell-size for other spots heading west toward Makaha, the normally groomed, clean, electric blue peaks at Nanakuli Tracks aka Tracks are the first signs of life you’ll see off the side of Farrington Hwy entering the Westside. Basically two to three a-frame peaks over reef, Tracks is a user-friendly, normally non-threatening option. Indeed, it gets crowded, and do NOT leave valuables in plain sight in your car, but Tracks is rippable come Wintertime on Oahu.
Ability Level
Beginner - Intermediate
Not for first-timers or learners, but best suited for any level from beginner on up.
Local Vibe
Doable
Definitely mostly locals from the area surfing this wave, so be respectful and use proper etiquette.
Crowd Factor
Moderate
Because Tracks is so user-friendly and the first spot most folks see entering the Westside, it cops a crowd. Normally not pro surfers, though.
Spot Rating
Fun
Not a perfect, tubing wave by any means, but rippable and fun rights and lefts over reef.
Shoulder Burn
Light
Tracks breaks fairly close to shore compared to other Westside spots, so the paddle out is mellow.
Water Quality
Clean
Normally gorgeous, translucent, turquoise water.
Hazards
Hitting the reef at low tide if you dive off your board willy-nilly.
Bring Your
Shortboard, Fish, Funboard, Longboard, Bodyboard
Access
Tracks Beach Park is almost across the beach from the big power plant (can’t miss it), there’s free parking in front of the waves.
Bottom
Reef.
Best Season
November-March.
