Voodoo Surf Guide
Voodoo is a complex rock reef platform, sloping rapidly off into deep water and heavily exposed to the south. It draws any swell from this direction, which is Sydney's most common, and when regional beaches are head-high or a bit bigger, Voodoo can be near twice the size and pack a serious, Hawaiian-style punch. The reef is sheltered from the north and thus is happy in any wind from that quarter, including the classic Sydney north-east seabreeze. It's optimum at low to mid tide. The take-off is a gnarly, ledgy bowl and the wave actually grows in size as it heads down the line. A small right bowls off the opposite side of the reef, but vanishes rapidly in larger swells.
Ability Level
Intermediate - Advanced
Intermediate surfers can fare well on the head-high-plus days, but once a big south swell hits, only advanced surfers should think about it. Targeted by tow teams on heavy days.
