Westbrook Surf Guide

Westbrook, a classic point/beachbreak north of Durban can get epic and can hold a nice swell. The main wave features rights reeling down along the sand in a pretty much orderly fashion. Alongside that is the beachbreak with mainly rights and the occasional lefts barreling top to bottom on the right conditions. It needs a northwest breeze or a light southwest. Both the point and the beach are blown out really easily and the mornings are generally the best. The point can hold a good swell, up to eight feet, but gets pretty gnarly and thick with big blowout barrels and the occasional death closeout to keep you on your toes. The paddle out can be gnarly when the swell is up, and you'll need to be fit and strong to punch through to backline. There's a local crew here who are cool and follow strict rules of etiquette, but they get their waves, and there are quite a few of them.
