Nothing much worth the effort this afternoon. There are tiny knee-high sets in a breezy, offshore wind - that wind side-shore at north-facing breaks. A few ripples for the groms to play in, flat for most.

Follow the A174 coast road out of Whitby and you'll come to one of the east coast's best beachbreaks. In a clean, northeasterly swell the sandbanks here can produce short, hollow waves. Although it works through the tides, mid to high is traditionally best - though the rebuilt sea wall may affect dead high depending on swell size. Can be heavy and rippy. Read more
